The American Dietetic Association recommends the following tips to help manage calories to lose weight:

  • Calorie balance - eating more calories than your body uses results in excess fat storage.
  • Portion management - be aware of portion sizes and enjoy your favorite foods in moderation.
  • Jot it down - keeping a food diary will help you spot those "hidden" calories.
  • Bottom line - make all of your calories count by choosing a wide variety of healthy foods each day.
