Counting Your Steps

When starting a pedometer walking program, keep in mind:

  • Inactive people normally take 2,000 - 4,000 steps a day.
  • Moderately active people take 5,000 - 7,000 steps a day.
  • Active people take at least 10,000 steps a day.
  • There are approximately 2,000 steps in each mile so 10,000 steps a day is approximately 5 miles.
