History

Formerly known as the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Research Associates, dgd Research was established in 1983 by Dr. Sherwyn L. Schwartz, M.D., as an addition to the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic-the largest endocrinology practice in the United States. With Drs. Jerome S. Fischer, M.D. and Mark S. Kipnes, M.D., dgd Research has performed over 1500 Phase I-IV clinical trials in diabetes, hypertension, neuropathy, osteoporosis, cholesterol, obesity, menopause, and nephropathy under the supervision of major pharmaceutical companies in accordance with FDA rules and regulations.

The research organization has experienced tremendous growth over the past 20 years. In addition to its optimal South Texas Medical Center location, the organization opened a research facility on the city's West side to reach a distinct patient population who are either drug naïve or cannot afford medication. In 2006, the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Research Associates began officially conducting business as dgd Research, Inc. dgd Research also welcomed Mr. Anthony G. Busa, Jr., former President of the Esoterix Center for Clinical Trials, as President/COO.

dgd Research is becoming the world leader in providing relevant patient populations to meet or exceed its clients' study requirements. With a customer base consisting of the top 50 global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, dgd Research has established a solid reputation as a nationally recognized endocrine research organization. dgd Research currently leads the U. S. market in Phase I endocrine/metabolic clinical trials and is fifth nationwide for Phase II-IV trials.

To continue making a positive impact on the welfare and education of its study participants, dgd Research will further enhance its services by constructing a new 80,000 sq. ft., 100 bed state-of-the-art Phase I-IV research facility, broadening relationships with other specialty clinical practices, and strengthening existing community ties through advertisements with the San Antonio Spurs, H-E-B Grocery, and local television affiliates. dgd Research is leading the search for better health.
